1904

After resigning from his job just one day before, Louis Kossuth Comstock founds electrical services company L.K. Comstock & Company Inc. and begins operations on New Year’s Day, 1904. In the next few years, Comstock sees marked success: His company provides electrical services to a range of clients, including New York Edison Company’s Waterside Station the BMT’s Williamsburg Power House. Perhaps the greatest indicator of his early success was Comstock’s work on the Hudson Terminal Building – the largest electrical contract ever awarded at the time.

After several decades of success, L.K. Comstock & Company becomes a corporation and begins to focus its efforts in the transit market, providing electrical services for nearly every major transit authority in the United States and establishing the company as experts and leaders in a rapidly industrializing world.

George Braun, Sr. founds G. Brown Contracting Co., in Abbotsford, BC. He quickly outgrows his home office, and in just a few years begins operating as Pacific Northern Rail Contractors (PNR). He, with the help of his three sons, Henry, George Jr., and Erwin, begin building PNR’s reputation for quality track work and customer service.

RailWorks
1980

PNR begins to expand its efforts eastward, obtaining major contracts in Eastern Canada, including the construction of a new rail yard facility for VIA Rail. In the coming years, they would continue to expand into other provinces in Canada, establishing themselves as market leaders for track construction.

L.K. Comstock, along with 13 other rail construction companies, founds RailWorks Corporation, an integrated enterprise formed to meet the unique needs of the rail transportation industry in North America.

RailWorks
1999

PNR joins the RailWorks track construction network and rebrands as PNR RailWorks. In the years following, they continue their growth throughout Canada, ultimately acquiring Quebec’s largest rail contractor. Today, PNR RailWorks’ Quebec division operates independently as PNR RailWorks Quebec Inc.
