FAMILLE RAILWORKS:
L.K. Comstock worked with equipment and technology providers Alcatel and Safetran to replace the existing and limited relay-based Bergen Street interlocking with the first vital microprocessor-based interlocking for the New York City Transit Authority (NYCT).
L.K. Comstock’s $40 million Bergen Street project was NYCT’s first pilot of Solid State Interlocking (SSI) technology. L.K. Comstock, with Alcatel and Safetran, replaced the existing relay-logic-based interlocking with new microprocessor-based interlocking room equipment and standard wayside equiment. The completion of this work with new, upgraded technology restored NYCT's ability to maximize traffic through the area and provided the capability to monitor system performance, increase interlocking operations reliability and make available real-time equipment information to signal maintainers.
As the first SSI installation on the New York metro network, the Bergen Street project established key requirements for future SSI installations. The project was completed in November of 2006.
