RAILWORKS FAMILY OF COMPANIES:
In southeast Kansas, RailWorks provided multiple upgrades for the South Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad (SKOL), owned by Watco.
A production gang upgraded track on the Chanute Subdivision to meet Federal Railroad Administration standards and allow for higher track speeds. The project was funded through the Kansas Department of Transportation. A 24-person tie gang upgraded 25 miles of main line and yard track between Cherryvale and Chanute. The crew upgraded the track with 38,000 new ties. During the process they also realigned or replaced dislodged or failing components such as ballast, spikes, anchors and tie plates.
